If you’ve had the pleasure of using some of the custom ROMs around these parts, you’ve probably noticed the wide array of replacement keyboards they often contain. However, for some people, the Gingerbread keyboard is still the preferred entry method. Since various ports of the stock Android 2.3 offering are available free of charge on the Android Market, this is normally no big deal.
What happens, however, when you want a themed version of the stock keyboard to replace the integrated keyboard on your non-AOSP ROM of choice? In order to alleviate that frustrating issue, XDA forum member brainmaster has compiled a massive list of 20 variants of the Gingerbread keyboard—including the standard, unthemed version.
While the developer isn’t the theme creator, he takes the themes created by other contributors and packages them up to work with the latest version of the stock Android keyboard in a nice update.zip that should work on all devices. In the words of the developer:
Many of us like the Themes: MattedBlues, Lucid (sonnysekhon), MinimalBread, MIUI, Neon …
I’m currently on MIUI ROM (see my signature) and can’t use CM7 Themes on MIUI, because MIUI have another Theme format.
So, I took the latest 2.3.4 Android Keyboard, added strings and dictionaries for many Languages and themed it with the skins. I also have changed the suggested words color from orange (standard Android) to the colors of the theme.
I am not making those themes – I am adding multi language strings and those themes to the latest Android Keyboard and repacking the zip for all systems.
Interested? We sure hope so! To get your themed keyboard fix on just about any Android ROM, continue on to the original thread._________
