ML Controller Brings Android and Canon Video DSLRs Together

Ever since it was first discovered that there were ways to interface Android with camera technology, developers have been working to harness that technology. Being able to interface with them can be pretty fun and useful once the full capabilities can be explored and added.

XDA Recognized Developer sztupy has begun taking on the task of creating an Android application that can properly work with video-capable DSLRs. The application is similar to an application created by XDA Senior Moderator and Recognized Developer Chainfire, but much earlier in the development process, and focused on video rather than still images.

Currently the features are pretty limited and include:

On bare Canon Firmware
* LiveView support during Movie mode, including LiveView while recording

With ML installed
* Changing any ML menu item

So, not quite as much yet but, as mentioned, the development is still very early on. In order to use it, the Android device must have USB host functionality and be running at least Froyo 2.2 or greater. The connected camera must be able to use Magic Lantern firmware. Here’s a short list of supported cameras:

* Canon 5D Mark II
* Canon 60D FW 1.1.0
* Canon 600D FW 1.0.1
* Canon 550D FW 1.0.9
* Canon 50D FW 1.0.8
* Canon 500D FW 1.1.1
