Those of you who are into theming or otherwise modifying system and framework APKs surely know how it can be a hassle at times to properly decompile and recompile the APKs for specific platforms—especially when there have been significant changes made to said platform. This has been true for ICS, where many have had issues with doing so because of requiring different versions of Apktool to use for the purpose. Fret no more; XDA Senior Member evol4g has written a guide that explains the whole process and provides the right versions of Apktool to do it for ICS 4.0.4.
In case you aren’t familiar with Apktool, it is a set of tools developed by XDA Recognized Developer Brut.all for decompiling and recompiling APK files. You can learn more about it at this thread or by visiting the Apktool project page.
The method involves downloading the zip file containing the appropriate modified version of Apktool that has been tested to work with 4.0.4. The files included in this package are for Windows (both 32 bit and 64 bit) but you can get the same versions of Apktool for other platforms from the Apktool project page link given above. The versions used are 1.4.2 and 1.4.3. Since Apktool runs on Java, the only major requirement is having Java runtime installed on your computer. The Android SDK is not required.
Once you have downloaded and extracted the file, follow the step-by-step instructions provided in the forum thread and you’ll be decompiling and recompiling system APKs for Android 4.0.4 in no time. Now go ahead and continue bringing us all the great themes and mods that you always share with us._________
