This year, xda:devcon will be held in Manchester, UK on the weekend of September 26-28. We have great sponsors like Sony, Oppo and OnePlus. Just a couple days ago we announced that Alin Jerpelea will be returning to talk about Sony and AOSP.

Of course, Jepelea is not the only speaker scheduled to present at xda:devcon ’14. Also presenting is Alex Lakatos, a Mozilla Representative Mentor and contributor to the Mozilla project for the past four years. He’s a JavaScript developer building on the open Web, trying to push its boundaries every day. You can check out his Github profile or get in touch on Twitter.

At xda:devcon ’13, Director of Websites and Developer Engagement at Mozilla Stormy Peters gave a presentation entitled “Bringing the World’s Next 2 Billion People Online.” Here, Stormy talked about the developing world’s path to the Internet being different than that of the first world. The first world took a path through desktop computer to Internet-enabled mobile devices. Developing countries are going straight to mobile. Developing countries have limited infrastructure and expendable income as well. Check out the video to see what they have to say on this video from last year.

This year, Lakatos offers up another excellent presentation talking about the small, but scrappy Firefox OS. As you know, Firefox OS is a new mobile OS developed by Mozilla, which lets users install and run Web applications created using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. In his presentation, Lakatos will talk about the mobile Web today, its challenges, and how Firefox OS fixes some of those problems. Then, the talk will transition to discussion about the goals of Firefox OS, and of course, web applications. Finally, Lakatos will show some useful tools anyone can use to develop their own applications for Firefox OS.
