Multi Tool For Sony Tablet S–Bootloop Protection, OTA Backup & More

Sony Tablet S owners are a patient bunch. The device was released in September, and was only recently rooted thanks to an an exploit discovered by djrbliss. Since then, XDA forum member Condi has been hard at work making sure that people are able to make the most of this newly discovered exploit. Following hot on the heels of his previously released automated rooting script, is a new Tablet S multi tool.
The tool is a script to be run on Windows and has three main functions;
- Modifying the build.prop to prevent the rather nasty bootloop that some users have experienced.
- Automatically downloading and backing up OTA updates.
- Disabling OTA’s and/or their respective notifications.
This tool comes as an afterthought to a comprehensive guide by Condi on how to allow rooted users to manually back up the OTA updates and re-flash their devices without causing the potentially fatal bootloop a few users had experienced. Due to the necessary edits to the build.prop people were finding themselves receiving annoying OTA notifications so this tool allows for those to be disabled and re-enabled at will.
To take advantage of this you’ll need root access and ADB set up correctly. It’s well worth the effort though as this effectively enables you tweak the firmware of this device to meet your personal needs and I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before Tablet S owners can look forward numerous custom ROMs popping up.
