Launcher applications hold a special place in the world of Android. They allow users to dramatically change their UI without rooting or performing any other major modification. They can increase usability over bad OEM skins and provide a plethora of add-ons for users whose phones don’t offer many built-in features. Some even offer lower resource usage and cater to older devices with low memory. This is why new launchers are always a little exciting. It’s yet another option in a community that’s ruled by having options, and is always worthy of consideration.
XDA Forum Member dskrils has posted about a launcher and boasts that it may be the holy grail of launchers. It is called Nemus Launcher, and it offers a number of features that are both pretty cool and pretty useful. The feature list is quite extensive. Some are run of the mill as launchers go, but some are actually impressive.
For one, it boasts is extremely low memory usage—around 4.5MB. That’s a very small footprint for a launcher and, if it’s true, gives Nemus Launcher a great resource advantage over some other, more bloated launchers. IT also boasts smooth scrolling and increased performance, along with a number of customization options that give this launcher the ability to actually compete with larger, more well known launchers. It support themes as well.
For additional information, screen shots, the full feature list, and discussion, check out the launcher thread. Is this the holy grail of launchers? If you’re looking for a launcher with a tiny resource footprint and performance, it may very well be. However, it has a lot of catching up to do if it wants to do battle with the biggest names in launcher replacement apps.
