The current kernel installation process on the HTC Rezound is, in a word, a mess. For the most part, users are all but stuck using the kernels that come with the custom ROM they’re using.
That is, until now. XDA Senior Member con247 has devised a script that will take the kernel of your choice and package it into a ramdisk image that you can package into an empty PH98IMG.zip file and flash via the phone’s hboot. This makes it possible to use any kernel you want with any ROM you want and it works while the bootloader is s-on.
Here’s the details on how the script works:
1) Dumps your current boot.img (this should be the one you flashed that was provided with a ROM)
2) Opens it and replaces the kernel with the one in the zip file.
*To add your own kernel (zImage) open the zip file with 7zip (don’t extract). Then go into the kernel folder and replace the zImage with your own.*
3) Recombines the ramdisk from the extracted boot image with your new kernel.
4) Plops the new boot.img on your SD card as newBootImg.img
From there it’s simply taking that new .img file, renaming it, dropping it into the PH98IMG and flashing via the bootloader. Voila! While it isn’t the most time effective process out there, it’s still a very handy tool for those flasher aficionados out there._________
