Nook Color Running Honeycomb From SDK

By now, you are all probably aware of the existence of the SDK for the upcoming, tablet oriented Android 3.0 OS, aka Honeycomb. Since Google couldn’t wait for this to get out for the anxious devs out there, they went ahead and released it to the masses. However, the devs are not just happy to run an emulated version in their PC as this is meant to be mobile in nature, so a few members have been working hard at it and extracted the image for the OS. This was then turned into something flashable and was flashed into a Nook Color. XDA member deeper-blue shows us a video of the end result of that. Just as any SDK port, the new OS makes the device laggy, with tons of features missing (including camera and 3D acceleration). However, this is a nice proof of concept and a bright glimpse into the future that will be Honeycomb. The tables on this will likely turn by the time AOSP hits the shelves, so if patience is indeed one of your virtues, you may want to use it.

What do you think of this new OS so far? Do you think it is as rich and feature full as Google has claimed so far? Please leave us your thoughts.

graphics acceleration more or less working. The SGX driver seems too old for some buffer request of android 3.0, so right now the statusbar is invisible but still functional. Not sure if I can fix that or have to wait for the AOSP release.

What is not working… pretty much everything else, no accelerometer, no wlan, no sound. Haven’t started working on those things yet.
