Nook Touch Desktop Conversion

Nook Touch Desktop Conversion

More than anything, hacking is a state of mind. Hacking is the want to explore the world around you, solve problems, learn, and work with your environment in a creative manner. The world of the hacker is something that is moldable and changable. One of the best hacks I’ve seen in a long time comes in the form of a Barnes & Noble Nook Touch converted into a desktop by Recognized Contributor Renate NST .

Renate NST took her love of music to the next level by creating an entire environment centered around the ability to play music without hindrance. In the picture above you can see part of her setup. She has modified her Nook Tablet with a fitting similar to a tripod screw on a camera in order to allow it  to fit onto a stand, which gives her the ability to view her music.

Renate NST took it a step further using USB On-the-Go functionality by including a custom USB hub and a kernel hack, which allows the Nook Tablet to charge rather than discharge when connected to a USB hub. Does it stop there? No. She not only hooked up the keyboard shown above, but she also modified another keyboard to be a foot-pedal. This allow her to change pages without removing her hands from her instrument.

The setup goes above and beyond, and is admirable by fans of electronics, hardware hacking, kernel hacking and clean modifications. Want to show off your cool hacks? Submit them to our tip line.
