Online Nandroid Backups Without Rebooting Ported to Most Android Devices

Online Nandroid Backups Without Rebooting Ported to Most Android Devices

A couple of months ago, we brought news of a pretty cool little application that created Nandroid backups without rebooting. The app was developed to give users too busy to reboot to recovery a chance to still create the all-important backup. Thus, Online Nandroid Backup was born. The app uses BusyBox and terminal commands to create a Nandroid backup without having to deal with any custom recoveries or turning the device off. Unfortunately, the initial release was for the Sony Xperia line up.

XDA Senior Member ameer1234567890, who developed the method, has given Online Nandroid Backup a mammoth update. How mammoth? It now supports most Android devices rather than simply the Xperia lineup. By adding support for many more partitions, ext2/ext3/ext4 and rfs file systems, and partition detection, the software is now capable of working on many more Android phones. With the new editions, the app now does quite a bit more. As ameer1234567890 explains:

This tool backups /boot (from version 5) , /recovery (from version 5) , /wimax (from version 5) , /appslog (from version 5) , /system , /data , /cache , /datadata (from version 5) , .android_secure & sd-ext (from version 3) partitions to /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup directory. The date format used for folder name is the same used by CWM itself and nandroid backups created with this tool can safely be restored using CWM. If you would want to have a custom name for backup folder, pass an argument with the name to the script and it will use the name.

Given how important creating a backup is, this application is surely useful for many members too busy to perform Nandroid backups otherwise.
