OpenVPN Working for the ASUS Transformer!

Not too long ago, XDA member freeflysage was successful in getting tun.ko compiled into the ASUS Transformer. For those of you who have no clue what this is, the tun.ko is a virtual network kernel device. It basically means that it makes virtual network devices in the kernel in order to facilitate to creation of certain types of connections. It is used to create software networks, some of which we know as VPNs (virtual private networks (thank you pulser_g2 for the explanation on this). The module by itself was somewhat lonely in the forums as very few people knew what could be done with it, until XDA member morak posted a very comprehensive guide on how to install and run this in order to make OpenVPN work on the Transformer (click here if you want to find out more about OpenVPN).

The guide is very complete and the dev states that you must be rooted in order to do this. So, if you are interested in this, grab your ADB and your blob and get your device rooted now. Before you know it, you will be connecting to your work’s VPN like it is the most common thing in the world.

I just got OpenVPN working and thought I would share:

Rooted

Installed tun.ko
