[OTA, Factory Images] Google Glass XE18.1 to Bring Glass to Smartphone Photo Sharing, New Cards

Just one week ago, Google Glass was given a substantial update to firmware XE17.3. For those who don’t remember, this update brought an experimental “Notification Glance” feature, which made it significantly more convenient to access incoming notifications when the screen is off. Now, more goodies have arrived for Google Glass explorers, thanks to the upcoming XE18.1 firmware.

Earlier today, the Google Glass team announced that an upcoming Google Glass update (XE18.1) would bring improved photo sharing capabilities and a few new cards. For starters, this new update is set to bring automatic photo sharing from Glass to your Android device through an upcoming update to Google’s MyGlass app. With both updates installed, users will be able to snap pictures through glass and have them automatically show up on your connected Android device. These pictures will be available through an automated notification that displays recently taken images. In addition to automated glass-to-device photo sharing, XE18. will also bring several new Google Now cards. These new cards include World Cup information, Parking Location, and package tracking.

According to Google, the XE18.1 update is scheduled to begin rolling out to consumer devices at some point this week. But just as was the case with the XE17.3 update, XE18.1 has already been located straight on Google’s servers. You can get in on the latest firmware a bit early by visiting XDA Recognized Contributor TheManii‘s stock firmware thread and downloading either the captured incremental OTA or the factory image (and pre-rooted boot.img). The corresponding MyGlass app update has not yet turned up, but it’s only a matter of time.
