Being part of the Hero devs, XDA member JsChiSurf recently obtianed a shinny new EVO and decided to start contributing to its development right away. The dev found out a way to make the shortcuts offered by Rosie (the bottom bar), a bit more useful and more accordingly to our preferences. There are several packages to be flashed via Recovery that will replace any of the 2 soft buttons, so if you would rather have the shortcut to the Messaging app instead of the phone, you will have that option.
A very useful tweak indeed that would probably make the whole UI a bit more useful than what it currently is.
This is based off of Fresh 126.96.36.199 Espresso, but a themer could certainly take and adapt to their ROM as desired.
It should be noted that on initial boot, you will get a one-time force close on Rosie. I’m not sure why this is occurring, but only happens on initial boot and does not impact functionality. I will keep looking at it to try and resolve.
Many, including myself, find the ‘add shortcut’ button on the right of Rosie to be unecessary, and find the phone button being front and center unecessary as well. The first remap simply switches out the app drawer and phone buttons placement, leaving the add shortcut button on the right. It is essentially stock Rosie with the exception of swapping out app drawer / phone.
