Home screen replacements are made with many features in mind: customizability, speed, small file sizes, and many others. In some cases, they may not even be traditional “launchers” at all. There are apps out there that function as an application launcher, but are not exactly intended to replace your standard launcher.
HomeFlip by XDA Forum Member id0x12345 falls into this category. It’s not quite a launcher, but it’s definitely a neat addition to any home screen. The best part? It’s free with no ads… forever.
The app’s concept is pretty simple. Upon launching the app by hitting your hardware home or menu button, or the bottom right corner of your screen, an app list appears in a similar fashion to the Samsung multi-window menu. From there, users can swipe items left to save them to favorites or swipe right to hide them forever.
Once the initial set up phase is over, simply click the designated areas again and you have a very quick and easy way to switch to another app. Most importantly, you don’t have to leave the app you’re in first. Given its status as a pseudo launcher, users can assign it as their regular launcher, but simply hit the home button one extra time to automatically switch back to their regular “fallback launcher.”
It’s pretty simple right now, but there are more features planned for future updates such as theming and at-a-glance time and date information. Thus far, the app has received phenomenal reviews in the Google Play Store, and people seem to find it generally helpful.
