Not too long ago, we brought you news of a tool called ROM Tools. Its main use was to decompile and recompile classes.dex. The tool, however, has recently been updated by XDA Recognized Contributor iamareebjamal to include some extra functionality and move towards being a more rounded, all-in-one Android utility.
ROM Tools itself is a command line-based utility for Windows, which despite being incredibly useful in its original form is being continually updated with the intention of becoming a one stop shop for Android device maintenance. The recently added features include:
- Reboot device
- Reboot to recovery
- Hot Reboot (kill all system services and restart GUI)
- Display logcat
- Save logcat
- Fix permissions
- Reset password
The option to reset passwords should allow you to clear a pin or pattern lock set on the device if you find yourself locked out. However, it has only been tested on older Samsung devices, so may not work for all devices. Iamareebjamal also makes a point of showing the commands used to implement these functions in the utility thread so if you wish to incorporate them into your own tool you can. Apparently, there is also an easter egg of some kind to be found.
Check out the original thread for more information._________
