Getting full root on HTC devices has been a virtual Merry-Go-Round. Certain HBoots can be rooted, while others cannot. Even worse, the actual rooting and S-Off methods often change as well. Luckily, this is XDA, and we always find ways around these issues. XDA Senior Member cmlusco has posted a new root method that promises to work for the HTC Incredible with HBoot 1.02.0000, giving users full root and S-Off.

The process itself is long. Very long. With more than 30 steps and including the use of ADB commands, flashing things over ClockworkMod Recovery, and using Unrevoked; this method is not one to be rushed. However, the thread is very thorough, and even those who are not technologically inclined should have no issues with completing the process. Additionally, cmlusco has added a few troubleshooting tips for those who end up having issues.
