Not too long ago, our own talented news writer mic_888 covered the Sony Xperia PLAY launch event. Now it looks like the device has just been rooted. In typical XDA fashion, we just have to provide you with an easy way.
Thanks to XDA forum member Bin4ry‘s latest how-to guide, it looks like the answer to this article’s title is a resounding YES! You are now just three easy steps from rooting your Xperia PLAY.
1. Unlock Bootloader
Stick to lollylost100′s Tutorial2. Download my package:
R800i WORLD .184Open a Terminal (on windows Start->Run->cmd)
Now copy the downloaded package to the location of fastboot you used for unlocking.
Enter this command:Windows:
fastboot flash system YOURDOWNLOADEDFILE.imgLinux:
fastboot -i 0x0fce flash system YOURDOWNLOADEDFILE.imgMac:
fastboot-mac -i 0x0fce flash system YOURDOWNLOADEDFILE.imgNow wait until its done.
3. REBOOT & ENJOY
While one of these steps actually involves the 12-step (see: ORD Anonymous) bootloader unlocking process by XDA forum member lollylost100, it still is quite easy. If you’re one of the lucky ones with a PLAY, be sure to continue on to the original thread.
