Are you an excited Android device owner keenly awaiting the widely anticipated and discussed official Froyo OTA update? Have you been drooling over the delicious delights that Google Nexus One owners have been enjoying for the last few weeks?
Well, according to the whirlwind of rumours (and confirmed announcements), some of you won’t have long to wait…..whilst others may have to hang on just a bit longer….
Let’s start with the oh so popular HTC Desire.
So, it’s going to be the Europeans with unlocked devices who luck out on this – yes HTC have confirmed that European HTC Desires will be receiving their Froyo updates this weekend and also with some added delights! There was a general consensus that perhaps one of the reasons HTC Desire owners would have to wait longer for the update would be because HTC Sense also requires an update – but it looks like it might have been worth the wait. You lucky guys are going to get 720p video recording, HTC’s App Share widget, and be able to sync your music to iTunes via HTC Sync!
For the other Euro guys who own an operator specific Desire….well, the news is not too bad. Testing is currently underway and HTC has announced that you should be receiving your update in ‘several weeks time’.
Next up, the mighty EVO 4G.
Well, now it’s time for some US attention – yes if you own a Sprint EVO 4G, you are the chosen ones and you guys get an actual official date. Your update will arrive on Tuesday 3rd August. This announcement has allegedly come from Sprint themselves. If you’re lucky though, you might get your delectable dessert by checking manually on your device to download the new OS before then.
Following hot on the heels of the EVO 4G, are….the HTC Droid, Motorola Droid and the Droid X.
No official announcement here, all from the rumour mill, but still you’re going to want to read this – the word on the street is that you guys may get your updates as soon as next week between the 6th and 15th of August, straight after the HTC Desire and EVO guys. Don’t get too excited though, as it could just be Verizon subscribers. This also adds to the circulating rumours that the Motorola Droid 2 will ship with Froyo….
And lastly…..the new and shiny Samsung Galaxy S.
Ok, so you can’t complain really, you’ve got your new Android phone, you’re just getting used to it, there’s lots to play around with, you’re not that far behind with Eclair and you’ve got that fancy TouchWiz launcher that other Android owners are eyeing up haven’t you? So, you guys are going to have to wait till September. This coming directly from the horse’s mouth – Samsung UK. (Yes, you read that correctly, UK). They state that Froyo is in development and will be released for all networks at the end of September. But let’s face it, that’s only, what 8 weeks? Hmmm.
So that’s it, a round up the rumours and announcements on the expected OTA Froyo updates so far. If you get the update before the speculated dates, post a comment below along with your device.
Remember, that because of the size of the Froyo update, it may be advisable to update over a WiFi connection.
