Our devs never cease to amaze us on how they can accomplish the feats that they do. Thanks to XDA moderator Chainfire, all the proud owners of the Samsung Galaxy S II can officially tell the rest of the Android world “we also have root!” While we knew that it was bound to happen sooner or later, root for SGS II users came in just in time, as it was already announced that Google is releasing 2.3.4, which the device doesn’t come equipped with. So, if you were thinking about getting a port of the newest OS revision on this fantastic device, you will be able to do it soon. However, Chainfire mentions a few rather basic indications as to what to do in order to get root and there is no proper guide written for this just yet. So, unless you are 100% sure of what you are doing, please wait until a more user friendly method comes out. Just as background information, the dev states that this is not properly rooted as kernel repackaging was giving him problems. But following this will give you the ability to remount /system read/write, push su / Superuser.apk, busybox, and much more.

Kernel repackaging gave me lots of issues, so this is NOT a proper “CF-Root”, and I have no time to fully explain. A proper “CF-Root” will have to wait until I have a device in-hand. So if you do NOT know what you are doing, WAIT until somebody has tested and posted a guide. I have no time to write one right now.
This is merely the XWKDD kernel in “insecure” mode. This means that you can use the “adb root” command to put ADB in root mode, and then get a root shell using “adb shell”.
