Share Your Google Street View Location with Mapify

Let’s face it: Even in 2013, it’s still relatively difficult to give people your precise location details. This may not be a big issue in sparsely populated rural areas. But as one who lives a stone’s throw away from New York City, I routinely find myself having difficulty pinpointing exactly where I am in order to meet with friends.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. And if that’s the case Google Street View must be worth at least as many. In order to allow people to leverage street view for location sharing effectively, XDA Forum Member weisass created Mapify.

So how does Mapify work? Using your GPS, Mapify finds your location and opens the street view. From there, you add an avatar in your exact location and use the capture button to share your location. The shared picture is then sent along with a map link. Since sharing uses the standard sharing intent, you can output your share to any number of receiving apps. And in the event that there’s no street view for your area, you can still add an avatar to a standard map image.

This is one of those few apps that you won’t know is useful until you actually use it. So if you find yourself giving your location often, you may want to give Mapify a shot. Head over to the application thread to give this a whirl.
