Show Me Your Shell

Show Me Your Shell

A new service called “Shelr” for Linux/Mac terminal users is now available. Shelr allows you to display your terminal in real-time. This tool can be very useful for displaying a terminal to a non-adept user.  Rather than using the time old tradition of telling someone how to do something:

type adb root, then type adb remount, then type adb shell, then type cd/system, then type echo “ro.myMyNewProp=New”>>/system/build.prop

Now you can show them.  You see, people tend to learn better from an example rather than simply being told or seeing a huge wall of text.   Shellr can put a block of text into a more understandable, real-time context.  The best part is that you can pause, copy and paste directly from the animated movie. For reference, check out my example of adding a new prop to my build.prop.

Next time you find yourself in a situation where you’re about to post a gigantic block of code or a series of cryptic commands, remember to pull Shelr out of your digital toolbox.

To get started, check out their website.  Get the source code here. Installation instructions are available here.
