We’ve tracked the evolution of XDA Senior Member Jawomo‘s SideControl during its three-month lifespan here on the XDA Portal. From its humble beginnings as the gesture launcher SideCuts to its recent acquisition of Halo support and Xposed functionality, the app Jawomo’s creation has made quite a lot of progress in quite a short time. Now, version 3 has been released, and like its previous updates, this version brings quite a lot in the way of additional functionality.
Like its predecessors, SideControl v3’s claim to fame is still the built-in sidebar launcher. But ever since the app’s initial release, more and more features have been added to add versatility and functionality. As of version 3, notification support has been added to the app. This feature, which can be seen in the screenshot to your right, shows you your notifications in a popup window when unlocking or using your phone.
The app’s sidebar functionality has also been improved to allow for much more customization. With v3, users can modify sidebar size, layout, label text, and color–and users can even to import application icon packs to achieve a more cohesive look. Similarly, the app’s UI has been improved to allow for drag-and-drop list organization, smoother list scrolling, and a tabbed UI.
Finally, the application has also gained even more power user functionality. This comes courtesy of additional sidebar options such as the ability to show app info, open the Play Store listing, and kill an app directly from the sidebar. What’s more, version 3 also offers more Xposed functionality such as the ability to hide the sidebar when pressing the back button or calling upon Halo/Multiwindow functionality.
It’s nice to see such an actively developed project here on the XDA forums. If you’ve been looking for a great sidebar option and haven’t yet given SideControl a shot, head over to the application thread to get started.
