Simulate the Moto X Active Notifications with Active Notify

Not too long ago, we talked about a program by XDA Forum Member niko001 that delivered some of the Moto X Active Notifications experience on your phone of choice. The app, which requires Android 4.3 to function, used Android 4.3’s new Notification Listener service in order to help limit battery drain.
Not everyone is running 4.3, though, so it’s nice to see another option available to those who don’t mind trading in a little bit of battery life for some added functionality. Furthermore, some would even like to have the option to use active notifications on a tablet. Active Notify by XDA Senior Member Akshay (Aky) should work with all recent Android versions, and it is equally at home on both tablets and phones.
Just like the original feature on the Moto X, Active Notify allows you to slide up to peek at your notifications without unlocking your device. From there, you can hold your finger there to read the notification or gesture left or right to access functions directly from the lock screen.
The app is currently in beta, but it is gaining features rapidly. It already incorporates gestures, and can get profile pictures from Google+ for incoming notifications. You can also set the app to ignore certain notifications, as well as change the look of the notifications. Future revisions will bring more customization and notification display options, as well as richer text output in the notification view.
To get started with the Active Notify beta, head over to the application thread. Be sure to leave your feedback for the developer to help make this app as good as it can be.
