Smart Statusbar – Gives You Easy Statusbar Access In Full Screen Apps

It’s a situation that we’ve all been in at one time or another. You’ve got a few minutes to kill, so what do you do? Perhaps fling a few brightly colored birds at a pig in a tower or watch someone stuff something into a blender on YouTube, and before you know it that few minutes has turned into ten, you’re late for whatever you were meant to be doing—a real life FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU ensues.

Well despair no more because XDA Senior Member jerryfan2000 has developed a nifty little app that may help to prevent such a scenario. Smart Statusbar allows you to reveal the status bar while in a full screen application with a simple downwards swipe gesture, thereby allowing you to keep track of time and notifications. By default the statusbar will stay on screen for 5 seconds, but this setting can be adjusted to suit your needs. There is also a haptic feedback function so that you know your gesture has been registered.

The app works on 2.0 or above, and is optimized for phones as opposed to tablets because tablets running Honeycomb or ICS have no need for this feature. However, it should work for tablet devices running older Android versions. If you want to test it out for yourself then you can find Smart Statusbar in its original forum thread.
