SMS Tasks Update Adds Functionality, Removes Root

Some time ago, we covered the application SMS Tasks by XDA Forum Member jkok. For those who need a little bit of a refresher, the application allows you to send an SMS to your device (along with your predefined password), which can then be used to execute a range of commands. These include tasks such as shutting down and rebooting your phone, launching recovery, sending a terminal command, uninstalling applications by package name, and bypassing the lock screen security.

A month and a half later, jkok has added a rather substantial update that gives the application more power. The main feature in this revision is Device Admin functionality. The addition of Device Admin support means that root access is no longer required to do a data wipe, and users are also now able to remotely lock their devices. It is important to note, however, that root access is still required for several other tasks such as shutting down and rebooting, launching recovery, and executing terminal commands.

Head over to the application thread to read more about SMS Tasks and its new functionality.
