Solid Explorer Brings Dual Window File Managing to Android

There are a lot of great file manager applications out there. With Astro, ES File Explorer, the ported MIUI File Explorer, and Root Manager; you’d be hard pressed to find a file explorer/root manager that stands apart in a significant way. Now, we’re at point where if you want your file manager application to be noticed, it needs to provide something a little different.
XDA Forum Member glodos (no relation) has accepted that challenge and brings us a file explorer that not only has the features you’d expect, but also packs in a few features that you won’t find in most others. Meet Solid Explorer, a file manager application that, as mentioned, has all of the features of your typical file manager along with some add-ons that really make it complete. The feature list includes:
Two independent panels for browsing
Drag and Drop inside and between panels
FTP, SFTP and SMB/CIFS clients
Support for ZIP, TAR.GZ, TAR.BZ2 and RAR archives
Creating ZIP and TAR archives
Root access (be careful with that)
Indexed search, also available from the system (this means that you can search for files from the Google Search widget/app)
Detailed file and directory information
Let’s take a closer look at that first feature. Two panels for browsing. This would be similar to opening up two folders on your computer, wherein each is separately controllable. The two panel browsing experience is restricted currently to landscape mode, so your portrait mode experience is very similar to most other file explorers. Adding on things like root access, support for archive files and more, Solid seems to live up to its name and looks like a pretty splendid addition to our aforementioned juggernauts. The app is still in an early beta stage, so expect there to be some bugs. However, once fixed, this file manager may well become the de facto standard for users looking to browse their files efficiently.
