Sony Releases Open Source Kernel Files for the Xperia M2

Sony Releases Open Source Kernel Files for the Xperia M2

Released approximately two months ago, the Xperia M2 is Sony’s mid-range offering for early 2014. Despite the device’s non-flagship status, the M2 has amassed a loyal following in the short time since its release thanks to the device’s competent specifications, great industrial design, and affordable price.

Up until now, Sony had failed to deliver the GPL-mandated kernel source code files for the device. Naturally, this had the unfortunate effect of stalling source-built development for the device. Now, however, Xperia M2 fans will be glad to know that source-built development can now begin for the device. This is of course made possible because Sony has released the required kernel source code files for the M2 and M2 Dual (software versions 18.0.C.1.13, 18.0.A.1.30, and 18.0.B.1.23)

As always, the kernel source files are available over at the Sony Developer World Open Source Archives. From there, you can find the open source files for the Xperia M2 and the M2 Dual. Once you’ve downloaded the sources and begun creating your projects, be sure to share them over in our new Xperia M2 forums.
