Updating the firmware on a device can be a real pain if you’re rooted. If you accept an OTA, you usually lose root during the update. The pain then comes when trying to root the device after the update. Often times, root isn’t achieved on an update for quite some time. This leaves early adopters stuck with a stock ROM that can’t be rooted. Sony Tablet S owners don’t have to worry about that anymore, thanks to a new app that makes firmware updates easy.
The tool is called Sony Tablet S FLASHER, and it does pretty much as its name implies: It flashes things. It was released by XDA Senior Member condi to help users get updates without losing root or messing anything up. As Condi explains:
S.onyTablet.S [FLASHER] will update your device firmware, prerooted, ‘rescue-backdoored’, with init.d added, and write permissions for ext-sdcard enabled,
All this automatically, you dont need to manual dl anything, copy, recovery etc. Nothing. Just plug in your tab, and run this tool It will automatically download needed data.
There shouldn’t be anymore worrying about keeping root with new updates, and no more worrying about making sure you’ve downloaded the right firmware. For those who install updates as soon as they come out, this can be an invaluable tool to make sure that you get to keep root while still running the latest from Sony.
