XDA forum member aditya_t90 was intrigued by requests from other XDA members to disable the media scanner on system boot of their Android devices, having to wait minutes at every boot-up for the scanner to complete.
In fact, the dev was so intrigued, that he wrote an application to stop the media scan on boot and also to enable scanning on demand. Although there are applications on the Market to kill the service at system boot, regaining the functionality to rescan the system requires re-enabling the media scanner process.
Rescan Media restarts the service temporarily by simply executing 2 shell commands and also let’s you rescan on demand.
There are two versions of the application, both available free in the Market. A root version for those that have killed the media scanner service at boot and a non-root version for new users.
For more information, head on over to the application thread._________
