In yet another turn of events, we learned in a thread started by XDA member Mokurex that HTC has announced that due to the short supply of AMOLED screens, they will be making a change in the production of devices. New batches of Nexus One and Desire will come equipped with SLCD (Super LCD) screens, according to Engadget. They claim that this switch will allow them to ramp up production rates to meet the demand from global markets.
The new panels will offer increased performance over traditional LCD displays, better color management, and most importantly, superior power management (better battery life).
HTC is experiencing high-demand for many of our phones, specifically our phones with 3.7 inch displays. The new SLCD display technology enables us to ramp up our production capabilities quickly to meet the high-demand,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “The SLCD displays provide consumers with a comparable visual experience to HTC’s current 3.7 inch displays with some additional benefits including battery performance.
