Tablets often present a conundrum for many users. While most tablets feature internal storage of 16GB or 32GB, there are some out there with 8 GB or less. And when you’re using that internal storage for your apps, music, movies, and more; it can get full pretty quickly. Many tablets simply run out of space, and even those with expandable storage like the Acer Iconia A100 would be better off using external storage as internal storage.
This is a problem that XDA Senior Member crossix, who’s brought other interesting developments to the Iconia A100 before, is aiming to fix with a mod that switches the internal and external storage. While the mod itself is relatively easy to apply, there is a warning attached to development such as this. Crossix offers up the standard boiler plate:
Do this at your own risk, it will not void your warrantee but it may make your device unresponsive and cause other issues that I haven’t discovered yet! Also, DO NOT at any point attempt to use the unmount sdcard found in your storage settings and DO NOT take your micro sdcard out while your tablet is on, doing these things will cause your apps to fc and potentially loose data.
So with that in mind, users simply need to download the modified files from crossix and use their favorite root file explorer application to replace some files and change some permissions. Once done, the A100 does the rest, and you’ll have your internal and external storage switched out. To remove it, simply delete the modified files, and the A100 will go back to normal.
