Are you one of the many who relies on a mobile data connection for tethered internet access? If so, you undoubtedly understand just how important tethering is. While most simply use the feature to create a quick WiFi hotspot on the go, others (such as yours truly) rely on tethering as their primary connection to the outside world.
Thankfully, Google saw fit to include native tethering capabilities into Android 2.2 Froyo and beyond. Unfortunately for users, however, those pesky carriers often disable the native functionality and turn it into a for-pay feature. However, as always, there is a solution.
Arguably the post popular third-party wireless tethering application is the aptly-titled Wireless Tether for Root Users. As its name implies, it allows almost any rooted device to share its mobile data connection with other devices. While reliable and highly compatible, some may find their application a bit bland aesthetically. To alleviate this, XDA forum member Dboy352 has released an eye-catching tech-themed version of the classic application.
For those that don’t know wireless tether is the best (In my opinion) for getting unlimited wife [sic] tethering from your phone to your computers either over wifi or bluetooth. YOU MUST HAVE ROOT for this app to work. I changed nothing to the functionality of the app, only to the apperance and have successfully tested on my Photon.
As with the original Wireless Tether for Root application, there are two somewhat major caveats. First, your device must be rooted in order to enjoy tethered goodness. Second, the app creates an ad hoc network, to which not all devices can connect.
