The Weekly Q&A: Week 26

The Weekly Q&A: Week 26

In this regular XDA feature, the news writer team scours the forums to find five questions and answers which may be of use to you, or may simply provide an interesting read.

Q‘I experience very slow transfer speeds when copying files to the class 6 microSD card in my Nexus One. Is there any reason for this?’

AThis is most likely a problem with the kernel you are using. Try flashing a different kernel and you should no longer have the problem.

  • Q&A originally posted in the Nexus One Q&A forum thread.

Q‘As Virgin uses Sprint’s towers for their network, would it be possible to use a used EVO 4G on the Virgin Mobile network rather than having to pay for a two-year contract with Sprint?’

A Unfortunately, the phone will not work on Virgin Mobile. However, if you buy a used EVO you do not necessarily have to sign a two-year contract with Sprint – you could flash it to Cricket or find a different deal.

  • Q&A originally posted in the HTC EVO 4G Q&A forum thread.

Q‘I’m running an Android NAND ROM on my HD2, but keep getting notifications telling me that my SD card is damaged. What does this mean?’

A Try using the card in a different phone or an SD card reader to diagnose the problem. As simple as it may sound, simply replacing the SD card may well do the trick.

  • Q&A originally posted in the HTC HD2 Q&A forum thread.

Q‘I decided to personally replace my Nexus One’s digitizer after the old one smashed. Everything seemed to go well, however I now experience very low signal on the phone when I try to make a call. Why is this?’

A Many other people have had the same problem once taking their Nexus One apart. The most probable cause is that the copper-coloured antenna at the bottom of the phone was somehow disturbed.

  • Q&A originally posted in the Nexus One Q&A forum thread.

Q‘I’ve always found Sense UI to be laggy on my EVO 4G, which is running the stock HTC ROM. Is there some way to fix this?’

A Such problems have been solved with custom ROMs using HTC’s Sense interface. Try out a ROM such as MikFroyo and see if that helps.
