Every week, we select five questions and answers, found on the forums. Even though some of these questions and answers might not be of help to you, they might still be interesting to read.
Q‘Does anyone know if Galaxy Tab will use the same RFS filesystem as Galaxy S’
A Samsung will not change the filesystem type in the official froyo release, but good news is, we already have a half dozen or more different lag fixes.
Q‘I read how you can make changes in the build.prop file on my Android device. How exactly do I get to it?’
A Install ASTRO file manager, browse to /system, long press on build.prop – Edit – Copy. Press on the home icon then Edit icon – Paste. Connect sd card, edit it, and paste it over from where you copied build.prop
Q‘Im looking for the xml needed to edit the in call dialer button text colour on my Droid Incredible. I know this xml is in Phone.apk but I can’t seem to find the right file.’
A You need to edit the text colour in two files, which are the styles xml files in the values-hdpi folders. Htcdialer.apk and phone.apk for the in call dialer.
Q‘What is your experience on WP7 coming from an Android device?’
A Zune has never been available in the UK before and people put down Zune syncing as a negative but it’s a much nicer and better way of syncing music/pictures/videos to your phone than having to connect, mount and then drag and drop. In terms of apps, while there aren’t many of them, the majority of WP7 apps are much better than the same or alternative app on Android, iPhone, WebOS and any other platform you can think of. Apps look sexy, there’s no more going in and out of sections to do a specific action, you simply swipe left to right but there is a lack of them. Gaming ties in with Xbox Live pretty well, you earn achievements and games go in your played list. Each game has a “trial” option where you can download a demo version before buying. However, games are quite pricey, ranging between £2.50 and £6.00. With regards to the UI, ‘Tiles’ are basically widgets just like in Android. Some are live, they display information which are pushed to them or they show some sort of animation… just like how in Android, widgets can show information. Scrolling is silky smooth and the whole experience is much quicker compared to even a customised Android device. Finally there is currently a lack customisation due to the fact that the device is closed.
Q‘How can I remove T-mobile customisations from my Omnia 7‘
A Currently it is not possible to de-brand a WP7 phone , only when we have custom rom’s/jailbreak/HSPL we can do that .
We certainly hope that you can use these bits of knowledge. This site is full of wonderful guides for virtually every question you could have. Read them and put them to good use.
