Every week we select 5 questions that we have come across throughout the forum, although they may not be interesting to you and your device(s) it may be useful to someone else with the same question.
Q‘I have an HTC HD7 and five Hotmail accounts used for various things. If I sync my main Hotmail account to login and sync with contacts, can I still set up and access my other four Hotmail accounts on the phone without migrating their contacts into People or messing anything else up?’
AYes, you can. Just add them and then in the settings of the email account choose what you want to sync.
Q‘How can I reduce the time that it takes to register my SMS messages as read? Some of my messages are a word or two long and in the time it takes me to read them the phone is still displaying them as new messages as I haven’t had them open for the length of time required to register them as read. Any ideas?’
A Simply use a registry editor to change the HKLM/Software/Jataayu/Messaging – MSFTUnreadCountFlag = x value to something lower.
Q‘I was wondering if there is a simple guide to remove the battery icon completely from the status bar. My search has so far shown me links for sense based roms only. I am currently running enom’s rom and would appreciate a heads up as to the name of the jar or services file within the rom that controls the icons.’
A You could open up the framework res, open the icon files and just erase the contents and resave. Then just make a metamorph with the empty files.
Q‘What exactly is a kernel and what are the benefits in changing it?’
A A kernel is a bridge between the applications and the actual data processing done at the hardware level. The kernel’s responsibilities include managing the system’s resources – the communication between hardware and software components. Flashing different kernels gives you different operating speeds, better battery life, the ability to overclock, and more.
Q‘Recently I’ve noticed that my EVO 4G is charging from the AC adaptor very slowl (sometimes as little as 2% per hour). Is there something wrong with my phone?’
A The EVO 4G is very power-hungry and as a result will not work well with chargers with a rating lower than 750mA. If you are using a third-party charger this may be the reason why it is not charging effectively.
