Surely anyone who’s had to hunt down the appropriate version of a theme to match a particular ROM revision can appreciate just how arduous the process is. Similarly, theme makers who constantly update their themes to match their target ROMs are well aware of how this situation is less than ideal. And what happens to users who happen to be on nightly ROM releases who also want to partake in themed goodness?
On behalf of Recognized Developer and Senior Moderator pulser_g2, fellow XDA forum member seshmaru has shared with us a wonderful set of flashable templates sure to make theme packaging easier and more efficient. Similar in concept, albeit completely different in execution, to the legendary MetaMorph by fellow XDA Senior Moderator Stericson, these scripts allow for the abstraction of ROM from theme.
In the words of the developer:
OK, so I think it’s time to explain what this is about. It’s born from the idea that came about on IRC, for a way to make a theme once for a ROM, rather than have to adjust it for each incremental update for a given ROM or ROMs.
As a user, you don’t need to know much – just flash this zip like a regular zip, and you’ll get your theme running. But you should be able to apply themes to any device, ROM, and version of the ROM, without it causing adverse effects. That means less time spent by themers making the original theme, and less time spent modifying it constantly for new versions of ROMs.
This will surely save headache and heartache for the creatively inclined everywhere, so be sure to continue on to the original thread to get started!
