Transfer Files Via FTP With FTPDroid

Getting stuff like files and folders from our computers onto our devices can sometimes, depending on the device, be a bit tricky. Devices like the Asus Transformer, for the time being do not have the simplistic luxury of other Android devices of connecting and getting a pop up asking you if you want to charge or connect your device as an external storage. Moreover, what happens if you need something from your work computer but do not have the cable with you? Worry not because there is a newly ported FTP client around. FTPDroid is a native Android port of Pure-FTPd and it was ported by XDA memberĀ berserker_devel. This app is light weight, very easy to use, and the best part is that it can be used with a plethora of devices. Looks like mounting and unmounting your SD card is a thing of the past, and aside for the need to charge, you can safely put your cable away. It should work with most Android devices.

The app is still under development, so please leave your feedback for the dev if you run into any kind of bugs or issues.

The benefits of using this application are:

  • Transfer files and folders to/from any computer and your device without the need of the USB cable.
  • No need anymore to mount/unmount the SD card.
  • Easily share files with other devices (Android or anything else, see the FAQs)
  • Keep the USB port of your device safe.

You can find more information in the application thread.
