Transparent Lock Screen Hack for Droid Eris and Hero CDMA

With the Sense interface, HTC also added a custom lock screen to its Android devices. This Sense lock screen contains a lot of useful information without having to unlock device — appointments, missed calls, text messages, and more. However, there is still some information being left behind, which can only be viewed by unlocking the device. XDA member gohamstergo discovered that it would be so much better if you could glance at the home screen without having to perform any unlocking gestures.
Solution: Just make the lock screen transparent. In that way, the unlock functionality will remain the same, and you will still be able to see a lot more information. After “a bunch of trial and error”, XDA member JsChiSurf managed to create a hack that makes the lock screen transparent. It should run well on any rooted CDMA HTC Hero. Member gohamstergo decided to make the lockscreen compatible with the Droid Eris. This one requires an odexed ROM and root. The Hero version will change the whole lock screen a lot more — all graphics are enhanced to make everything as transparent as possible. It offers some more possibilities as well. The Droid Eris hack only makes the background transparent, but leaves the unlock bar untouched.

This is a modification of the STOCK HTC Sense lockscreen that removes the background so you can see your homescreen behind it.
Originally created by JsChiSurf over in the Hero forums via my encouragement. This version is made for the Eris, it is not the same as the Hero version (which doesn’t work properly for us).

Ladies and Gentlemen, after a bunch of trial and error, I am proud to announce that I have achieved a clear lock screen for 2.1. I arrived at this starting with the Fresh 2.0d framework, but this should work on the latest DamageControl ROM as well, since they are both based on the latest Sprint leak.
This will provide a clear lock screen, as well as blank out the “Sprint” text above the clock on the lock screen. Essentially, allowing you to customize a clear lock screen the same way traditionally done on 1.5 ROMs.
