Some of you may have been eagerly awaiting the release of psx4droid by developer ZodTTD. Well, the PSX emulator for Android devices was released to the Market today, and already there have been multiple posts about this by XDA members.
However, there have been reports of difficulty in getting the emulator to work, so XDA forum member ap3604 has helpfully posted a step by step tutorial to get the emulator working on a Google Nexus One. (Note the tutorial may also be applicable for other Android 2.0 and above devices).
The tricky part according to ap3604, is that the ROMs have a different type of ECM file that is not recognised by the emulator. ECM is a compression technology heavily used in many PSX projects, which have an additional layer of compression. Normally ECM’ed games cannot be played until they have been uncompressed from this additional layer. Thankfully, ap3604 has provided the link and instructions to resolve this dilemma.
Note that root is not required.
