The Market is a wonderful thing. Connected to your Gmail account, it can guarantee that whatever apps you downloaded from the Market will be there in case you need to reinstall them. However, not everyone trusts this feature and much rather prefer to have them safely stored in the comfort of their computer’s hard drive for easy retrieval. The only drawback of this is that you miss out on possible automatic updates to the apps. Well, thanks to XDA member _breez_, this is now a thing of the past. LocalAPK is a Windows application that will monitor all the apks in a designated folder and will compare them to whatever the latest versions are in the Market. This is great as it will save you the hassle of downloading updates post installing old apps, which is in turn rather convenient for people who are not on unlimited data plans. Also, keeping one’s collection up to date never hurt anyone.
The application is still in beta but it is stable enough to run well on most Windows based PCs. Please leave some feedback for the dev if you are finding this to be a useful tool.
I have made an application (not for android but for PC). The goal is to check if the APK files on your local harddrive are up-to-date or not.
You can find more information in the application thread.
