Use #Hashtags in Your Text Messages with PoundMe

If you’re of the Twitter generation, you may find yourself quite at home with the ever present #hashtag. Now that Google+ and Facebook have also incorporated hashtag functionality, it was really only a matter of time before the feature found its way into applications not at all related to social networking.

Now thanks to XDA Forum Member Gold1e, the ubiquitous hashtag has also found its way into text messaging. Gold1e’s application PoundMe serves as a plugin for text messaging applications. Its purpose is to eliminate the need to search the web for information related to your received texts.

So how does it work? As the app’s name implies, you use the pound sign (#) followed by a trigger and relevant information. For example, if you text a friend who has the application installed that you are #at The Statue of Liberty, PoundMe will extract that information from the text message. Then, rather than forcing you to scour for information about the location, the recipient’s PoundMe app will open the relevant application and look for The Statue of Liberty.

PoundMe allows you to customize the #triggers that can be used, as well as the applications used to search for the relevant media or information. The triggers can be chosen from 13 categories, including applications, dining, events, Google, locations, movies, music, news, calls, and more.

PoundMe is a hidden gem that could well end up saving you and your friends a considerable amount of time when on the go. Head over to the application thread to get started.
