Nothing’s quite as annoying as that all-too-common 404 error… well, except maybe when that site you’re trying to reach is down in its entirety. Even worse is when you’re doing this on your mobile device, in a less-than-ideal service area, and you’re subjected to invalid links while on a 2G connection. In these instances, it’d be nice to know if the link you’re trying to visit is legitimately down or if it’s a problem on your (or your ISP’s) end.
To that end, XDA Forum Member The Waswas presents his latest app, isDown? link checker. As its name implies, it checks whether a particular site in question is currently up. It is able to do this by searching for individual URLs, but more impressively, it can also extract the URL from a tinyURL link and check that as well. While the app doesn’t currently have any additional functionality, more is planned in the future, including a notification for easier access to the link checking functionality and a built-in link shortener using the tinyURL service.
While link checking may not be the most exciting thing you’ve ever done on your mobile device, it certainly can prove useful in certain situations. Visit the application thread to get started and leave some feedback._________
