Although well into its product cycle and surpassed by the newer M8, the Verizon HTC One is one of the American carrier’s former flagship devices. This shows in everything from the device’s fantastic HTC build materials to the frequency with which Verizon sends out OTA firmware updates. Today, the Verizon variant of this venerable device has started receiving an OTA firmware update to Android 4.4.3, and not only has it been mirrored for your OTA sideloading pleasure, but it has also been converted to RUU format for direct flashing.
Today’s update comes in the form of a 386.4 MB incremental OTA to firmware revision 5.28.605.2. In addition to bumping up the Android version to 4.4.3, it also is said to bring improved battery life with the new Extreme Power Saver (EPS) mode, as well as mobile hotspot connectivity. In addition, various other fixes have been implemented such as a fix for some Pandora streaming issues, a patch for an unnamed root exploit, MMS functionality when data is disabled, improved keyboard compatibility, and improved LED performance. The full details can be found on Verizon’s update site.
Naturally, as is basically always the case with updates for popular devices, today’s OTA is being released in the form of a staged rollout. As such, not every device will get the update in the initial wave. However, XDA Recognized Contributor dottat was kind enough to not only capture and mirror the OTA, but he also converted it to an RUU, which allows you to update any S-OFF Verizon HTC One device to this latest firmware directly!
If you’re looking to get in on the direct OTA a bit early, head over to the HTC One 5.28.605.2 OTA thread. And if you’d rather have a full, one size fits all prebuilt RUU that can take any S-Off device to the latest official firmware, head over to the HTC One 4.4.3 RUU thread!_________
