Vire Launcher Breaths New Life to Android Home Screens

Vire Launcher Breaths New Life to Android Home Screens

Over the years, we have seen our fair share of launchers making their way through most platforms we have had on XDA-Developers (well, maybe except Windows Phone). They have all brought their own unique features to the table, and based on them, newer launchers have grown and have spawned with those same features and more. The life cycle of launchers is an example of Android evolving at its best, and one can rejoice knowing that the options are only getting better and more feature packed. Hardware becoming more powerful has a very nice side effect as well since more resources, higher resolutions, and greater screen real estate and pixel densities enable much more functionality.

Today, we present a new launcher called Vire, which was developed by XDA Forum Members navdeepsangwan and winograd. The launcher has most of the features from launchers such as ADW, Apex, and brings unique functionality as well. The UI itself is very smooth and makes great use of the hardware on which it is installed. Very fluid 3D transition animations, automatically themed icons, reflection effects, and multi-touch controls make this a rather unique package. Another piece of eye candy is an implementation of the 3D home effect that HTC tried to implement in Sense 3.5. By using the on board accelerometer, visual changes can be seen on the UI. In this case, the reflection on the brushed metal themed clocked changes based on the angle at which the device is held. There are, of course, a few issues such as high RAM consumption (~60 MB) as well as a very brief but noticeable lag when opening an app. Also, there is only one applet available at the time (the clock, which actually has a pull down menu to enable even more real estate on the screen).

The devs are looking for feedback regarding bugs and feature requests to help them make the launcher even better. Based on their website, it seems that Vire will support themes as well as allowing people to make their own, thus making the entire UI amazingly customizable. If you are interested, head to the Play store and look for their Christmas theme. There is a small video preview, so you will not have to install the theme if you don’t want to think of the Holiday Season for another 10 months or so. Please take it for a spin and leave feedback for the devs.

A amazing launcher launched on play store…
