Things are really coming together for all the EVO 3D early adopters out there. First, there was root, shortly after there was S-Off, and now it seems that we are beginning to see that hardware modders and hackers are getting into the action. XDA member TrevE has made a thread regarding the possibility of getting “Download Mode” on the EVO 3D. As it turns out, the back of the device has two small holes which ended up being connection ports to access the “magical” mode. The dev used a serial to TTL board to establish a connection and his computer recognized the device as “QHSUSB_DLOAD”, which yielded a direct connection to the device upon installing all the necessary drivers. At this point in time, you are either drooling or trying to figure out why download mode is important. Well, among a few useful things, this mode will allow anyone with enough skill to talk (read and write in various cases) to certain parts of the hardware located at very low levels (the kind that will allow you to do things like unbricking a device and overwriting a patched bootloader, for instance).
The thread is full of useful information and the dev mentioned that he will start focusing on various aspects of the Download mode now that S-Off has been achieved. Remember that this is highly technical and is not recommended if you are not sure what you are looking at. However, it is worth a read if you are eager to learn a thing or two. Please leave some feedback and your findings if you decide to go down the same road as the dev.
ive gotten alot of PM’s asking exactly how this was made. maybe the other pics wernt descriptive enough. heres the best detail i can get into.
The device is wired to a geeetech.com usb-> ttl board, but it does not respond to commands to this com port. I also have a regular usb cable hooked up, and it seems this is where the com port gets opened.
You can find more information in the original thread.
