We like things free and developers like to share, but there are applications out there that perhaps you never knew existed. We have developers here that have created software, that until now, we have not permitted to be shown at xda-developers because it is paidware. We have judged it time to recognize that developers need recognition and sometimes this will be in monetary form, and users here may find it useful to have a place that helps them find new works created by our talented members.
Breaking with tradition and in order to meet demand from both users and developers, we have decided to create a forum where developers can “showcase” their paid apps. No longer will we say to our established and contributing developers that they cannot post links to their paid apps as we now have a Paid Software forum for these purposes.
However, this will not be a Marketplace, but a forum where OUR developers can post threads about original software they have developed and provide links to where it can be purchased. Nothing will be for sale here at xda-developers, but you will be able to read about their software, see screenshots and be able to link directly to the developer’s site to buy the software.
Our aim, as always, is to support our developers while providing access to useful software for our users. To ensure threads in the forum are exclusively made by our own developers, there is an approval process that any developer posting in the forum must pass. The primary proviso is that the developer MUST be a contributing member on xda-developers and will have a history of providing free apps or other value (like support) to the xda community.
Naturally, we might need to adjust the rules of this forum and institute policies to keep everyone happy. For now, we’ll see what happens.
