On Going XDA-Developers Maintenance
Posted September 26, 2010 at 11:02 pm by egzthunder1
You may be aware of the downtime that the site suffered yesterday night due to the the failure of the RAID 10 array. The site is still undergoing some maintenance and will be completely off-line tonight for a short period of time as well, according to this announcement:
Last night, we rebooted the database server to update the kernel. During the reboot, 2 of the 4 drives dropped out of the RAID 10 array and they happened to be from the same stripe. This meant the failure of the array.
The maintenance was to update the kernel and then make a configuration change in the database to allow replication. (We did not get the config change or replication setup)
Tonight (9/26), we are going to take the site offline for just over an hour and setup database replication so we have additional redundancy and will allow us to increase the frequency of our backups.
We understand RAID is not a backup, Replication is not a backup, and we keep off-site backups of everything.
Thanks for your support and understanding
