We know: the forum index of XDA is very long, and it’s not getting any shorter. As hot new devices come out, we want to be sure that we’re giving them a home on XDA so that you can benefit from all of the great development work that our community has to offer, and thus we are continually adding new forums. To help make the forum index more easy to navigate for you, we’ve come up with two solutions, the second of which is new and will launch on Wednesday (6/23/2010).
1. Compact view. This is only for the new forum style that is still in open beta. This view condenses the forum index and displays it without images, making it much shorter and faster-loading. This is also the version you see when you view the new forum template with a mobile device.
2. New! Current/legacy view. Starting on Wednesday, when you visit forum.xda-developers.com, you will only see “current” devices listed, which includes devices that have been released within the last few years. We’re doing this because some of the “legacy” device forums (Wallaby, Blue Angel, etc) get very little activity nowadays, so it doesn’t make sense to keep them on the index for everyone to see. If you want to see the legacy device forums, you can either 1. Hit the “Show Legacy” button at the top of the new or old template (see attached screenshot), or 2. Use the filter at the top of either template to instantly jump to a forum of your choice.
We are still supporting these older devices and other than that they won’t be listed on the forum index, nothing about your use of these forums will change. Links to the forums or to posts in the forums will still work as usual.
