Asus Transformer Successfully Overclocked to 1.4 GHz… More to Come!
For those of you who were concerned that the ASUS Transformer was going to be a dead device because of the lack of development on its forums, you should drop by and check out some of the latest developments, particularly the latest, which is courtesy of XDA member netarchy. The dev has been working for a few weeks on a kernel that would allow to do more with this tablet from ASUS. Long story short, he recently released a kernel that allows the device to run at a blazing fast 1.4 GHz, as opposed to the stock speed of 1 GHz. The dev does warn that the 1.4 GHz is still a bit unstable, which makes this kernel not 100% ready for mass consumption. However, if history is any indication, running unstable or otherwise experimental software on our devices is not something that has ever stopped us from trying to get the most out of our devices. There is also a second frequency set at 1.2 GHz, which some members have reported as being far more stable than 1.4 GHz. One of the added bonuses of this kernel is the fact that choppiness is almost completely gone from the Youtube videos at either 720p and 1080p. Also, despite the high frequency used, it seems that the kernel is rather gentle on battery consumption as well (not that the Transformer has lousy battery life or anything). Members have reported Quadrant scores of up to 4900 and a few others (me included) have experienced a little over 4300 with Linpack scores of over 58 MFLOPS.
If you have one of these and would like to take this kernel for a spin, please leave feedback.
Current things of interest:
- Overclock up to 1.4ghz (this will probably expand later) [Use a tool such as Setcpu to overclock]
- 126.96.36.199 kernel base
- CIFS included
- TUN built-in
- NTFS support
