At its New Delhi event held today, Asus has launched the Zenfone 2 for the Indian market. The smartphone brings great value to the table, coupling great specs with affordable price tags across all Zenfone 2 models.

The variants can be divided into two umbrella models: the ZE550ML model and the ZE551ML model.

The ZE550ML model comes with Intel’s Atom Z3560 1.8 GHz quad-core processor. The device packs 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. As for the screen, it features a 5.5 inch 720p display in the same form factor as the other variants. This variant is priced at Rs. 12,999 ($205), and competes directly with the 2nd Gen Moto G which is sold at the same price.

The ZE551ML models sport a 5.5 inch 1080p display, giving it an edge over the base variant. The ZE551ML can further be divided into two models based on their RAM.

The 2GB RAM version of the ZE551ML variant comes with Intel’s Atom Z3560 1.8 GHz quad-core processor and 16GB of internal storage, both of which are same as the base model. This variant is priced at Rs. 14,999 ($235). The difference between this variant and the base variant is their screen resolution (720p vs 1080p).

The 4GB RAM version of the ZE551ML variant comes with Intel’s Atom Z3580 2.3 GHz quad-core SoC. This is an upgrade over both the previous variants. Again, this can be further divided into two variants based on their internal storages. The 32GB internal storage variant comes for Rs. 19,999 ($315) while the 64GB internal storage variant will cost you Rs. 22,999 ($360).

Thankfully, Asus does not go ahead to further confuse all of us with the rest of the features. The common features across all of the variants includes the camera. All models sport the same 13 MP camera with real tone flash for the rear, while the front camera is a 5 MP snapper. The devices come with built-in 3,000 mAh batteries and micro-SD support of up to 64GB along with dual-sim and 4G LTE connectivity, and will ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop with Asus's ZenUI skin.

While having multiple variants under the same name would give the Asus Zenfone 2 more recognition in the market, it will quickly confuse the average customer who will remain clueless on the exact differences amongst the models. We certainly wish Asus and other manufacturers come up with different naming schemes rather than calling all their devices with the same name.

The best buy amongst the 4 variants would be the ZE551ML 4GB variant with 32GB storage for Rs. 19,999 ($315), as it sports the best screen, most RAM as well as enough internal storage considering the fact that the phones have micro-sd support.
